Yesterday was day 2 of the yearly Spijkenisse Festival. It was a full day from 13:00 till 23:30 with lots of music! The day started off with Anneke van Giersbergen. Anneke is a dutch singer songrwiter that sings ‘Indiepop with an edge’.

Later on this week I will be uploading the rest of the photo’s of the spijkenisse festival to my gallery.

This weekend Spijkenisse is al about it’s yearly festival. Yesterday friday the 27th of august was the opening with in the main tent Kim Hoorweg, a young talented jazz singer followed by Bernard Berkhout Swing Orchestra. This is a 18 manned band with music based on Jazz from the 30′s!

Tomorrow the 28th of august will be a more diverse agenda with Plaats Delict, Boris and upcoming talent who performed at Lowlands! Tim Knol!!!

On Saturday the 22nd of August Rotterdam turned into a racing track with fast cars and burning rubber! The highlight of the day was Vitali Petrov giving his Formula 1 Demo in the Renault F1 Car.

Tweetup Biesbosch

A while ago on twitter @LauraVink came up with the idea to arrange a ‘dutch landscapes’ tweetup. In the preparations a lot of people seemed interested in joining and soon approximately 15 people had signed up. A location had to be found so a few locations were suggested by the tweeps and after an almost unanimous decision the location was set to the Biesbosch. The Biesbosch National Park is a green maze of several rivers, islands and a vast network of narrow and wide creeks. The area is one of the largest, valuable natural areas in the Netherlands. What’s more, it is one of the few remaining fresh-water tidal areas in Europe. The Nieuwe Merwede canal divides the National Park equally between the provinces of Noord-Brabant and Zuid-Holland.

Last saturday the 22nd of August we all met up at @fotojudiths’ place for a cup of coffee to get to know eachother a bit before setting off. Right from the start I knew, landscape isn’t my cup of tea, so I chose to make macro’s instead. We started off at the Dordtse Biesbosch. Some were packed with tripods and expensive Lee Big Stopper filters and others were out hunting for insects. After about an hour and a half we went back to the cars to cross the nieuwe merwede and have a cup of coffee in Werkendam, wich is where @PetervanVeen and @HettyvanVeen live. After a short rest and a nice warm cup of coffee we set off again, @PetervanVeen knows the area and took us to a nice spot where we all got what we came for, landscapes and bugs. Soon the first people started saying goodbye who had plans for the evening.

In the end we were left with 7 of us. We packed our gear and headed off to a wok restaurant to have a nice meal and chat about our experiences during the day. They say time flies when you’re having fun, well, it’s true! we were at the restaurant for just over 3 and a half hours! Even when we were outside walking to the car we couldn’t stop talking. But everyting has an end and so did this day too.

It was a very very pleasant day! I’ve met lots of new great people! Learned some stuff and gave some an ‘empty wallet’ by lending out my macro lens

Bavaria city race Rotterdam

Today I got up early in the morning to go to the bavaria city race in Rotterdam. Lots of cars and burning rubber! I had to go early to get a decent spot to take pictures from and I got what I wanted! At hofplein right at the front at a ‘donut’ spot. Below a small video I shot with my D90 and Tamron 17-50.

Expensive weekend camping?

The weekend of the 13th of august me, my girlfriend and 2 friends of ours went camping in national park the Hoge Veluwe We arrived late friday evening so we had little time to set up the tent before sunset. In about an hour we set up the tent and unpacked. We deserved a nice cold beer wich we drank outside enjoying the sunset in the woods. At first we thought we wouldn’t be inside the national park but we were just inside the gates. This gave us the idea to get up early in the morning and go deerspotting at dawn. We were unsure if we were even allowed to be wondering through the park at that time in the morning but we decided to take the risk anyway. So we drank up our drinks and went to bed to try to have some sleep. unfortunately we did not get much sleep because there was a fair with live music going on till the early hours in the morning wich kept us awake most of the night. When we finally fell asleep the alarmclock went at 5 A.M.

We made our breakfast (sandwiches) the evening before so we got dressed, packed our camera’s and set off. We decided to walk to the nearest deerspotting post and enjoy the misty sunrise. After about 30 minutes of walking we heard a loud bang and I joked: ‘someone’s got a nice deer steak for supper tonight’ In wich they said, no way that was a bang from a gun, way too loud. So we carried on walking and not much farther we passed an empty car wich said something like nature preserve.

After about a hour to hour and a half walk we arrived at the visitors center, we grabbed a free bycicle each and wanted to continue to the deerspotting observationhut but heard a car coming towards us at quite some speed. It was the park ranger! We all thought the same thing…. ‘UH OH’ we’re screwed!
The ranger got out of his car and looked quite angry, we stayed calm and kindly said good morning. He looked more angry than he was luckily.
He told us that we weren’t allowed to be here at 6:30 in the morning and he had to fine us for being there. He was in a good mood and only fined 2 of us instead of all 4.
Maybe us being calm and polite helped a bit We asked him how much the fine would be but he didn’t know, that was up to the public prosecutor and we should be getting the fine in our mailbox in a few weeks time.

Why weren’t we allowed to be there we thought and asked. ‘Well’ he said ‘Because at dusk and dawn we have hunters hunting the deer to maintain the population’ , thus for us a risk being there as you never know where the bullets might fly. Ofcourse that was a valid enough reason and if we had of known that we wouldn’t have gone so early in the morning either.

So a good lesson for us in future, Keep to the opening hours!!!!

I have uploaded a couple of macro photos into the gallery. It isn’t much yet but hopefully the gallery will be filling up soon.

This coming weekend I’ll be spending the weekend on a camping just outside Hoenderloo wich is right next to national park the Veluwe.
Beautiful landscapes, insects and hopefully I’ll spot some lizards,snakes and deer too!

Wallenpop 2010

Finally some good news! On saturday the 7th of August there was Wallenpop in Hellevoetsluis. Wallenpop is a small festival where local bands perform.

The weather was miserable so I didn’t go till 6ish in the evening. Luckily the last raindrops fell when I arrived. So a dry evening of photography!

For someone with zero knowhow on php and css and lots of google’ing my site is slowly getting near to how I want it.

I have finally been able to get my header image working and aligned. Next up: the gallery.

The basic format layout for the gallery has been made and hopefully I’ll be able to finish it off by next week.

Please be patient and my site will be back to normal very soon!
